Hey Andy,
Wondering if one of your plugins can help here, or if I can use code over at Mi to solve this problem. I'm just starting out with ACL (well, I have it fully functional with a simple User-Plans model, but given your understanding of ACLs, I am a novice).
So anyway, things start to get more complicated when I introduce an association between Users and Plans.

I now have User HasMany Memberships, User BelongsTo Memberships (via current_membership_id), Membership belongsTo Plan, (and conversely Plan HasMany Memberships). Thats how my models are related. My question though is on ACL AROs. In the AfterSave() for the User ...when I save a User, how do i get the parentNode of the User? So that the AROs and ARO_ACO tables get updated?
Furthermore the ACL checking in cake is transparent. Would just updating parentNode (how, i still dont know) be good enough when cake does its ACL checks?

If you could show us how to do that, it could help future readers too (but most importantly it would help me 8)

This doesn't work with CakePHP 1.2.2.8120 or above does it?

It seems there is a problem with the filter. It forms weird queries when you try to filter by something.

SELECT `Brand`.`id`, `Brand`.`name`, `Brand`.`modified`, `Brand`.`created` FROM `brands` AS `Brand` WHERE `Brand`.`id` = '= 2' ORDER BY `Brand`.`name` desc LIMIT 20

Notice the = '= 2' part. Did a change to the cake core break this functionality? Any suggestions for fixing it?

I had the same problem on Windows Server 2003 with Apache 2.2.11. I went with the first fix:

Don't use a named parameter as the first root level parameter. The url /index/orAnything/something:somethingelse will work fine.

Specifically, I was using this with Mediawiki. I was trying to do: http://myserver/Article_Title but instead went with http://myserver/wiki/Article_Title. Thanks for the helpful note! - Erich

Hi Greg,

Attachments are not actively used in the cookbook, and the code related to attachments is more or less obsolete. It's just the upload mechanism.

But anyway, if you browse to /admin/attachments/add/node/123 you should be able to upload a file/image which you'd then see available to you when editing node 123. There's not much magic to it though, and any upload solution is likely to outdo what it offers.

Find me on freenode #cakephp-docs if you have any problems or questions regarding the cakebook application.

Thanks for your work on the Cakebook. I am working on using it for the base of a policies and procedures application.

I'm currently trying to figure out the exact purpose of the "attachments". I was expecting to be able attach files and have them appear when looking at a related node. Other than the "edit" view of the node, I don't see any reference to attachments in any of the node views.

Am I misunderstanding the purpose of attachments?

Templates are definitely key, I would think getting the output as valid XHTML was easy within the templates, i.e. code once and reuse and you make sure those snippets of code validate.

This way you can create sections which can easily be added/removed and not interfere with the overall framework, unless of course they are the framework templates.

The benefits totally outweigh the ego imo, it's important to get a good following and advocates of the information/product.
keep the blog going, it's a great way to increase the awareness and speed of prototyping ideas.
